The USA's Florida National Guard has ordered a deployable GSM network fromTeleCommunication Systems (TCS). The $3.8 million contract award includes threeyears of continued support. TCS will provide rapidly deployable GSM systems,training, maintenance and field support which enhances the state's emergencyresponse capabilities by allowing the Florida National Guard to communicateduring emergencies when commercial networks are down.Partnering with SiRRAN Communications, TCS will implement a GSM platform thatdelivers a self- contained, privately managed network that can be deployedwithin 10 minutes. The GSM systems will augment the 17 larger Florida NationalGuard Regional Emergency Response Network (RERN) systems."The Florida National Guard is universally recognized for their'always-ready, always-there' commitment to emergency response," said MikeBristol, general manager and senior vice president of government solutions forTCS. An Italian prosecutor is seeking an indictment against Telecom Italia andthree former company directors following an investigation into SIM-card fraudthat took place between 2006-8.It had been alleged that the company inflated its subscriber base by falselyregistering SIM card sales in order to boost its apparent market share asreported to the stock market.The prosecutor is seeking to indict the former CEO, Riccardo Ruggiero andex-managers Luca Luciani and Massimo Castelli on charges of interfering with theregulatory process.The fraud is alleged to have involved the company renewing over 5 millionprepay SIM cards close to their expiry date for being classed as inactive bycharging a single Euro-cent to each card, thus keeping it active for a further90 days.The artificially inflated subscriber numbers were then reported to theregulator.The charges carry a potential maximum sentence of eight years if convicted.On the web: Adnkronos

Three of India's largest mobile networks have reportedly signed a broadroaming agreement covering their 3G networks.
